《Hip Hop Years New York》(1982년 ~ 1992년)은 영국의 다큐멘터리 사진작가 재닛 베크먼의 작품으로, 80년대부터 90년대 초반까지 힙합을 기록한 10여 년간의 프로젝트의 작은 이미지들을 모은 것이다. 영국 태생의 사진작가 재닛 베크먼은 펑크 록의 초창기 음악 잡지 더 페이스와 멜로디 메이커에서 일하면서 경력을 시작했다. 그녀는 클래시, 스페셜, 보이 조지, 잼을 포함한 밴드와 세 장의 폴리스 음반 커버를 촬영했다. 언더그라운드 힙합씬에 매료된 그녀는 1983년 뉴욕으로 이주하여 런 DMC, 슬릭 릭, 솔트 엔 페파, 그랜드 마스터 플래시, LL 쿨 J 등과 같은 선구자들의 사진을 찍었다. 베크먼은 '메이드 인 UK 1977-1982', '브레이크스 스타일린', '프로필린' 1982-1990', '엘 호요 마라빌라', 2018년 '더 매쉬업' 등 4권의 책을 출간했다. 그녀의 작품은 스미소니언 국립 아프리카계 미국인 역사 문화 박물관, 뉴욕 시 박물관, 마르세유 문명 박물관, 도쿄 나카무라 키스 헤링 컬렉션에 전시되어 있다.

Hip Hop Years New York 1982–1992 by New York based British documentary photographer Janette Beckman is a small selection of images from a decade long project documenting Hip Hop through the 80′s until the early 90′s. British-born photographer Janette Beckman began her career at the dawn of punk rock working for music magazines The Face and Melody Maker. She shot bands including the Clash, the Specials, Boy George and the Jam as well as three Police album covers. Drawn to the underground hip-hop scene, she moved to NYC in 1983 and photographed pioneers such as Run DMC, Slick Rick, Salt-N-Pepa, Grand Master Flash, LL Cool J and more. Beckman has published four books : ‘Made in the UK, Music of Attitude 1977-1982’, ‘The Breaks Stylin’ and Profilin’1982-1990’ ‘El Hoyo Maravilla’ and in 2018 ‘The MashUp’ a collection of her Hip Hop photographs reinterpreted by legendary graffiti artists.Her work has been exhibited in galleries worldwide and is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Museum of the City of New York, Marseille Musée des Civilisations de l'Europe, and the Tokyo Nakamura Keith Haring Collection. She lives and works in New York for clients including Levi’s and Dior.
